Man Who Killed Burglar With Samurai Sword Will Not Be Charged

A Johns Hopkins Student who killed an unarmed burglar with a Samurai Sword has been vindicated.
The Baltimore State's attorney has determined that John Pontolillo was justified in defending himself by hitting a burglar with a samurai sword. The student was reasonable in his belief that he was in danger of death or serious bodily injury from home invader John Rice.

Rice was a career criminal who had been arrested more than twenty four times previously for burglary, auto theft, and B & E. He was only out of jail two days when he was cut down to size.
The student's sword whack cut a gaping gash in Rice's chest, and nearly cut off his left hand. He was dead at the crime scene.

There had been a burglary at the home where Pontolillo lived with three other students. Police came to investigate, took a report, and left. Pontolillo went outside to check his car, and found Rice hiding under the back porch of the home. He grabbed his sword , raised it, and yelled for Rice to not move. Rice came at him with arms raised.  Pontolillo couldn't tell if Rice was armed, and struck him with the sword.

Many students supported Pontolillo's actions, and sold t-shirts saying "I'm A Samurai Too."

In Fort Wayne:

It wasn't a good day for home 23 year old Home invader Trenton Tavon Jones, who was armed with a gun and was wearing a ski mask when he was shot to death by a homeowner. The homeowner fired near his front door as Jones tried to break in. Indiana is a Castle Doctrine state, and homeowners can't be charged when protecting their home with deadly force when someone is breaking into their home.

It is believed that several accomplices escaped in their dark colored getaway car.

Arizona Robber Shot By Homeowner

It was a wild day in Phoenix on 01/27/10. A man broke into a vending machine there, and drove off from the scene. His car broke down, and he had to pull over at an elementary school. Witnesses had followed him there and had called police. The school was quickly locked down.

As officers went through the area, they heard a loud “pop.”

They received a report that that a homeowner had shot an armed intruder. The homeowner said that the man pointed a gun at him and tried to rob him. The homeowner managed to get his shotgun and shot the thug in the stomach, killing him.

And, Texans, keep an eye out for this fugitive below

"O" Doesn't Stand For Oxycodone

A not so bright burglar hit a Medford, Oregon pharmacy and took all of the prescriptions in the "O" section. Police believe that he was after Oxycodone.  But, what the fool got was all of the prescriptions that were filed under the letter "O" which was the first letter in the customer's last names in the alphabetical customer pick up section. police believe the thief is involved with other area break ins.

In Selma, Alabama, a warning shot found its target.

McCruter

Leandrew McRuter went back to burglarize a home again, after setting fire to the home the first time several days earlier. He stole a television on the first try. The fire was quickly put out by volunteer firemen.

A Selma Alabama homeowner grabbed his shotgun when he heard McRuter break into his home again, and shined a flashlight into a family member's face. The home had been burglarized twice before.  At that time, the homeowner felt that his family was in danger, so he fired a "warning shot" to scare the burglar. The shotgun slug bounced off the floor and hit hapless McRuter in the leg anyway.

McRuter faces two felonies for the burglaries and one felony for the arson. He could be sent to prison up to ten years for each burglary, and up to twenty years for the arson.

And, in Spartanburg County South Carolina:

The homeowner didn't trifle with a "warning shot" when 16 year old Jamarous Rogers reached through a window he broke, and tried to unlock the home's door. Rick Clary heard the noise, grabbed his shotgun, and fired once at Jamarous, hitting him. Jamarous and another thug fled the scene, and left behind a rental car and a stolen 9mm pistol.  Jamarous will be charged as an adult with burglary and possessing a firearm during a violent crime.

And, an Oxnard, California man shot one man of the two who tried to break into his home. He heard the doorbell ring, but didn't answer it. The intruders made noises at the side of the house, and the home's occupant saw two strangers in the back yard. The thugs broke open a garage door. The break in set off a burglar alarm. The homeowner got his gun and called 911.

The home invaders charged the homeowner, and the homeowner shot to stop them.  One crook dropped, but had surgery at a local hospital. Police are looking for the second man.

Third Burglary Of Home In Three Days Ends With Home Invader Shot Dead

A St. Louis man, whose home was burglarized on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, 01/25/10, had enough on the third burglary. He shot and killed the home invader in the third burglary.

The homeowner shot the 45 year old black male in the chest when he broke into the home. He died on the spot. Two women who also broke with the man who was killed ran away after the shots were fired. Police are looking for them.

Police said that the homeowner was justified in killing the burglar under the state’s Castle Doctrine law. He will not be charged.

Missouri’s Castle Doctrine Law permits the use of deadly force in most circumstances if someone invades a home or occupied vehicle.

This is the second justified killing of a burglar in St. Louis in less than a month.

And, self defense has no age limits.

In Hidalgo County, Texas, along the Mexican border, an 11 year old boy shot a home invader who forcefully crashed into his house last week. Three men broke in to the home where the boy and his mother were hiding in a closet.
One of the thugs shot through the door, and the bullet struck the boy in the groin. The boy had a .22 rifle and he used in when he shot back and hit the man outside in the neck
Both the boy and the burglar were hospitalized in San Antonio. The thug is under police guard. Police have apprehended the wounded man’s two accomplices.

Criminals Have A Bad Weekend At Four Crime Scenes

A Florida homeowner shot a man who tried to break into his home on 01/22/10. Josh Moore, the Port St. Lucie home’s occupant ran to grab his shotgun. The home invader and Moore fought over the shotgun. The gun fired. An autopsy is scheduled for the home invader. No charges are pending against Mr. Moore.

In Houston, Texas, the occupant of a mobile home fired at his front door when he heard someone trying to kick it in and come inside. A 17 year old who was trying to invade the home was shot by one of the shots fired in his direction. Michael Banner won’t be breaking into any more homes thanks to the mobile home’s owner.

It is believed that three other people ran away, and police are looking for them. Their identities are known to authorities.

It will cost about $75.00 to repair the mobile home door.

An Illinois crook was killed by a clerk he tried to rob on 01/22/10. The armed robber made the mistake of trying to rob the S & A Liquor store in Crest Hill. The clerk fought with the robber, and the clerk got a shot off that eventually killed the thug.  The robber was caught when he went to a hospital for treatment for the gunshot wound, before he died from it.

And the next day, a Columbus, Ohio homeowner told police that two men that he knew pointed a gun at him and his family. The bad guys asked for prescription painkiller drugs and money.

But the Home Invaders didn’t know that the homeowner’s mother was in another room armed with a gun, and was ready to defend the home’s occupants. She came out of the room and shot. She hit one of the men.

As is often typical, the wounded man was arrested when he went to the hospital for treatment. The other thug was arrested later.

Armed Self Defense At Work Across America

Humberto Hernandez

In Palm Springs, Ca:
In a miscalculation of what a man believed would be a successful home invasion, Mr. Humberto Hernandez tried to burglarize a home and wound up fighting the homeowner. But, the homeowner got the upper hand and got his .38 caliber handgun and shot Hernandez. Hernandez was captured during a traffic stop when a policeman noticed a wound on Hernandez’s shoulder. The wound had been treated by unknown persons.
Hernandez had ordered the man and his wife to get on the floor of their home while he looked for loot. Hernandez took the gun from the homeowner before he left. Fortunately, neither occupant of the home was harmed. Police are looking for the gun.
In New York:
Parrish Spencer was shot by a homeowner after he broke the window of a door of Willie Carson’s house in Niagara Falls, New York. Spencer entered the home and went upstairs, where Carson let him have it. Mr. Spencer is in the hospital, under guard, in stable condition.
Police say that they found broken Plexiglas at the home on January 21st. Carson will not be charged.
And, in new Mexico:
A sledgehammer wielding home invader was shot dead in Albuquerque by a homeowner as the crook tried to smash through a door. Neighbors reported that they heard something that sounded like a door being kicked in at the house.
Police are looking for what appeared to be a getaway car that left the scene.

Meanwhile in Kansas City:

Two carjackers were shot as they tried to carjack a car a Kansas City car wash this week.

The thugs approached the car’s owner with the plan to take the car. Instead, the car’s owner pulled his gun and shot them both.  One of the carjackers had life threatening injuries. The other escaped in a car driven by an accomplice, but was wounded too.

This shooting was the second self defense shooting of robbers in Kansas City in just one hour.
A clerk at a local business shot a robber when he saw the man walking in and carrying a weapon.
It isn’t known if the clerk’s shots hit the man.

Burglar Takes Shower, Cuts His Hair, And Fries Chicken Before Being Caught In Home He Ransacked

Jose Nicolas DeGracia
JOSE DEGRACIA

27 year old burglar Jose Degracia got a little too comfortable in the residence he broke into in Easton , Pennsylvania. He made himself at home. The homeowner was shocked when she entered her house to find Jose Degracia, a complete stranger, there. DeGracia had taken a shower, cut his hair, and had fried her chicken when he was surprised by Grace Kraus.

Her house was ransacked , and her personal property was scattered everywhere. Jose was sitting in her T.V. room wearing her grandson’s clothes and boots when Ms. Kraus found him. The homeowner smelled something cooking when she entered the home, but it took a few minutes for her to connect the fresh fried chicken smell and the home invader. It was just too strange.

Ms. Kraus threatened the nutcase with an umbrella, and held him at “umbrella point” until police arrived.

Police found empty beer cans throughout her home. The thug will be charged with burglary and trespass. Hopefully the authorities will get creative in adding other charges. Just looking at his mug shot will show he must have dropped out of barber college.

In Texas, other people didn’t use umbrellas, but took armed action in defending their homes:
A Lubbock, Texas Home Invader ran out of luck when he tried to kick in a resident’s back door. The thug first knocked at the front door, and the homeowner then heard someone trying to get in through the back door by kicking it open. The resident responded by confronting the home invader in the back yard with a shotgun. The homeowner shot the criminal. There had been several breakings in the neighborhood recently. The homeowner didn’t have any life threatening injuries from the shotgun blast.

Police believe the home invader may have also been connected with several recent break-ins.
The burglar will be charged; however, the homeowner won’t be.

And also in the Lone Star State:

A San Antonio homeowner took self defense steps when he shot at people who were trying to invade his home. The resident heard a person trying to kick open his back door. That’s when, fearing for his life, he grabbed his revolver and shot five times at a group of three men just outside. An eighteen year old man was wounded by the resident and was arrested at a residence not far away. Police are looking for the other home invaders. The man who shot the teen will not be charged.

Swedish Robbery Victim Who Shot Robber To Be Charged With Attempted Murder

A Stockholm, Sweden tobacco store clerk will be charged with attempted murder because he shot one of two men who were trying to commit an armed robbery on him at his shop.  One of the Swedish armed robbers was shot in the stomach by the clerk. The other thug is still on the loose.

The armed robber threatened the clerk with a knife. The clerk drew his gun and shot when the robbers were leaving the store, but injured himself as well as the criminal with the firearm. He was treated at the same hospital as the thug he shot.

From this incident, it appears that robbers, burglars, and other armed criminals have a protected status in Sweden, as well as Great Britain.

And, at the other end of the justice spectrum, in Memphis:

Two teenaged armed robbers wished they would have stayed at home after they tried to rob a CITGO service station on Memphis Sunday. In the dead of night at 4:40a.m., the two teens, one armed with a gun, entered the gas station and told the clerk to give them money.

Instead, the clerk pulled his gun and gave them some bullets fired from his gun. He shot both of the teen hoodlums. The 16 and 17 year old ran from the store, but were captured behind some nearby apartments. They were taken to a Memphis hospital where they were treated for gunshot wounds. The 17 year old robber is in critical condition. The 16 year old had less serious wounds.

This is the second incident in two days where a Memphis employee has shot armed robbers. In the other case, it was another 17 year old thug who was shot in an attempted armed robbery.

No charges are expected to be filed against the service station clerk who fought back inTennessee.

Home Invader Faints When Judge Sentences Him To 15 Years

An Atlanta, Georgia burglar, who was sentenced for his part in a home invasion burglary, fainted in Court after hearing that he would be spending his next 15 years in prison. He had to be dragged out of the Courtroom. D’ Georgio Jackson and three other thugs broke into the Grant’s Park home of Dan and Alyssa Kopp, and stole thousands of dollars of personal property.

The hoodlums kicked in a door, and helped themselves to the loot inside. They knew how to get inside. But, what they didn’t know was that the homeowners had installed covert security cameras inside and outside the home that recorded the crooks’ every move, from the break in itself to the carrying out of the goods. The home invaders were busted after the videos of them at work burglarizing the home were posted on the internet.

D’ Georgio’s mother said that he was the victim of misidentification, but hapless D’Georgio pled guilty to the crime.

As D’ Georgio stood shackled before the Judge, the victims spoke out against him about how the home invasion impacted their lives. They said that they were standing up in the place of other crime victims when they spoke to the Court about the crime’s impact on them.

Judge Jerry Baxter was not impressed with D’Georgio telling him at his guilty plea proceeding, that, in essence, he wanted to get on with his life and put this behind him.
The Judge sentenced D’Georgio to 20 years in prison, with the first 15 years to be served, with 5 suspended.
Judge Baxter told D’Georgio that the sentence was meant to make him an example of crime not paying.

D’Georgio is also a suspect in several other burglaries committed within hours of this one. If convicted of those crimes, the sentences could be consecutive with the 15 year sentence.

In Kansas City, Kansas:

Police there reported that a convenience store clerk shot a man attempting to rob him just after midnight on the morning on 01/15/10. When the robber entered, the clerk was away from the counter. He spotted the armed man from a back room. The clerk fired one shot and the robber ran off. Police believe that the robber was wounded. The clerk had a concealed handgun permit.
You can bet that this story won’t be one included in the ongoing count of shootings by concealed permit holders on the Violence Policy Center website.

In Palm Springs:
Police have released few details of a home invasion that went wrong on 01/17/10. A burglar was shot in Palm Springs by a husband and wife who confronted him. The medium sized criminal was a white male, about 5'8" tall, who wore a black ski mask. The home invader kicked down a sliding glass door to get inside. He told the couple to get on the floor while he looked for things he wanted. The couple was able to get their hands on their own gun, and shot the thug in the upper body. He escaped in a convertible red Ford Mustang.

And, in Houston:

A shooting of a teenager was referred to the Grand Jury when a man shot a teenager who was trying to steal his car on 01/17/10. It was parked in the owner’s driveway.  Deputies found the 18 year thief old dead in the driveway after responding to reports of gunshots.

The teen’s accomplice ran off. No charges have been filed against the car’s owner.

How Can The British Defend Their Homes From Home Invaders? ...They Can't

A British celebrity, Myleene Klass, who is a popular broadcaster and model, brandished an "illegal" kitchen knife, and ran off a band of young intruders who entered her property last week . Police have told her that they believed she  acted illegally in showing the knife to defend the home.

She was in the kitchen when she saw the intruders in her garden acting suspiciously. They came toward the window she was looking out of, but turned away. They then tried to break into a shed on the property when she screamed and waved the knife to scare the intruders away.

She was informed by the authorities that the kitchen knife was an "offensive weapon", and that she was not allowed to brandish the knife to scare the intruders off, even if endangered on her property.

This is how the self defense system has worked in Britain for years. There is a movement in Britain now to finally allow people to protect themselves and have immunity in using force to fight off intruders.

This latest travesty comes after another Brit, Munir Hussain, was sentenced to prison for 30 months last year after defending himself and his family from a knife wielding home invader.  He, his brother, and Hussain’s family had been tied up by a home invader. The brothers worked their way loose and confronted the burglar. The brothers used a metal bar and cricket bat in fighting back.  They hit the burglar’s head so hard with the bat that it broke in half.

In a complete miscarriage of justice, after the home invader received a well deserved concussion, the Court said that the burglar wasn’t competent to plead to false imprisonment, and was given probation.  This career criminal had more than 50 previous convictions. In addition to Hussain’s 30 months, his brother was sentenced to 39 months. Both brothers were found guilty of causing “grievous bodily harm” to the home invader.

In sentencing the brothers, the Judge said that he believed that civilized society would collapse if people were allowed to take the law into their own hands and punish the intruder, instead of letting “justice” take its course, which in this case was probation for the intruder and prison for his victims. But was this punishment of the home invader, or did the brothers just take steps to protect the home's occupants and stop a vicious crime?  The criminal justice system failed these two men and their families miserably.

You may remember the case of British farmer, Tony Martin, who shot and killed a home invader in self defense several years ago, and was convicted of murder. That event set off a debate on self defense in Britain that hasn’t been resolved yet.  We can consider ourselves fortunate indeed to have had forefathers with wisdom enough to affirm out pre-existing right to self defense, and to keep and bear arms.

Two Inept Robbers Lose Guns To Victims In Different Crimes...One Robber Dies

Two armed men broke into a Shreveport, La. home and threatened to kill a woman and a teenager who were inside the home.  The  two men began to tear the house up looking for loot. They also fired shots in the house to scare the victims into obedience.

The homeowner, Willie Baker, who was away from the house when the robbery began, returned home during the melee, and a confrontation began between him and the home invaders. Baker was able to get the gun from one of the home invaders, and shot him in the leg. The other home invader was shot in the head. Both were taken to a Shreveport hospital, where the man who was shot in the head by Baker was pronounced dead.
No charges are expected against Baker.

And, another thug lost his gun in Clifton Heights, Pennsylvania. A woman apartment dweller had two male visitors from New York. They had finished a late night of nightclubbing, where they met two women. They all returned to the apartment early in the morning.

The women they met at the nightclub left the apartment about 7 a.m. Just after their leaving, the home invaders knocked on the door, and one of the New Yorkers opened it. Two masked men rushed in and demanded jewelry and money from the apartment’s occupants. One of the robbers had a handgun.

One of the New Yorkers seized an opportunity, and he scuffled with the armed robber, forcing him back out into the hallway that the robbers entered from, and got control of the robber’s gun. The gun went off. That was enough for the robbers. One drove off in the getaway car, and the other home invader ran from the apartment complex. One of the robbers had an African accent.

Police are looking for the armed robbers. The Police would also like to speak to the two women who may be connected with the robbery attempt.

Houston Teenage Burglar Killed By His Intended "Victim"

A Houston teenage burglar was killed by his intended “victim” as he left the homeowner’s house with a television.  The teen’s girlfriend was also arrested when she went back to the scene to pick up the burglar boyfriend.  But, the boyfriend got his ride in the coroner’s vehicle instead.  Marcel Jaquan Simpson ran from the home, but didn’t get far having sustained mortal gunshot  wounds. The girlfriend is charged with burglary.
No charges have been filed against the homeowner. The homeowner believes that the teen also burgled the home in December by entering in the same manner through the same door he used on his final crime.

Meanwhile, In California: An 81 year old Sacramento man used his firearm to scare off men trying to rob him. The men asked to use his phone, and once inside the house, they attempted to rob him. The elderly gentleman was left inside a room alone, so he pulled his gun and started shooting.  The two robbers ran off after the homeowner shot through a door.

And, In Pennsylvania:

We previously reported that a burglar was shot dead at Sherman’s Dale Beer and Beverages on January 2nd  in New Bloomfield, Pa. After reviewing the store’s security camera recording, no charges will be filed the owner who killed the burglar. The District Attorney said that the shooting was justified. The recording showed that the owner backed away from burglar, Jeffrey Harless, who was charging at him holding a hammer over his head. Harless’ accomplice won’t be charged with homicide because Pennsylvania law says that an accomplice can’t be held responsible for the death of an accomplice’s death caused by a third party. She has been charged with burglary.

And finally:

Four Delaware men failed miserably in their robber attempt of a liquor store. A clerk was told to hand over the money and threatened by one gunman while another man jumped over the counter. The man who jumped over the counter was also armed. He told the clerk to back up. He then tried to open the cash register while he held a gun on the clerk.
The man trying to open the till was distracted and the clerk took that opportunity to draw his own handgun and began shooting at the men. Robber Kendall Miller was killed by the shots. The second robber and the getaway driver were both arrested. The two survivors were charged with conspiracy, third degree robbery, and possession of a deadly weapon.

Teenage Burglar Shoots Himself As He Tries To Escape Crime Scene

A teenage burglar in Ashville, N.C. didn’t have a clean getaway when he burglarized a home there on January 7th.   The homeowner, who was the intended “victim” went into his house and found two teens he didn’t know inside his home. One of the young punks pointed a gun at him.

Changing their minds, the duo tried to climb out a window to escape. One of the teenagers shot himself as he tried to wiggle out of the window. He got as far as the driveway’s end before he collapsed.

Investigators said one of the teens, a 16-year-old who was not identified, shot himself in the neck as he climbed out of a window. He made it to the end of the driveway before collapsing.

Police are looking for the second teen.

And, if you don’t have a firearm, use what’s at hand.
In Kelso, Washington, a burglar was shot last month by the homeowner who used a bow and arrow. The man was in the act of burglarizing the homeowner’s house. The homeowner followed the culprit, and shot him with the arrow as he burglarized the house that had been temporarily vacated because of a fire.

Gaylen Crane was arrested when he went to a hospital for treatment for the arrow wound.

And, a Macon, Georgia man had to use his shotgun to defend himself against three stray pit bulls that threatened him. He went outside to feed his livestock when an aggressive pit bull came at him. He retrieved the shotgun from the house and shot at the dog, missing it.
But a second pit bull tried to attack him, and he shot it and a third pit bull in a cattle pen.
No charges were filed against the man.

Home Invasion Stopped When Home Invader's Own Kids Recognize Him

These first two stories aren’t cases case of armed self defense, but they are too funny to ignore. Raul Gaucin-Valenzuela intended to help a friend beat up the new boyfriend of the friend's ex-wife in Greeley Colorado.

Raul put a bandana over his face to disguise himself, but what he didn’t know was that the friend’s ex-wife was babysitting Raul’s own children. His kids recognized him, even though he was wearing the disguise. His bandana also slipped off a few times during the break in, which didn't help Raul.

He was arrested and charged with criminal mischief, two counts of menacing, second degree burglary, and child abuse because he broke into a home where children were present. He is being held on $21,000 bond.

In Memphis, It was a bad day for Dartanelle Palmore, who  went to burglarize Pedro Kennedy’s home. Kennedy was allegedly set up for the burglary by Wynesha Johnson.

Dartanelle hid outside the home until he forced his way into the home by attacking Kennedy. Kennedy defended himself with a staple gun and gave the thug gashes, a cut face, and a black eye. Police arrested Palmore and Johnson.

And in Houston, Police gave sketchy details of a robbery gone bad for the culprits.  A neighbor of a homeowner who was being robbed by four armed men outside the victim’s  home shot at the robbers, hitting at least one. The robber was killed. The three surviving robbers exchanged shots with the neighbor as they ran from the scene of the robbery. It is not known if any of the other robbers were hit. They have not been arrested yet. Neither neighbor was hurt.

Convenience Store Robber Shot And Killed By Customer

An Orange County Florida robber was beating a convenience store clerk, when a customer took action.

Freddie Carson was in the process of forcing money from the store clerk and beating her with a beer bottle when Chris Riccitelli ran to his car to get a gun. He shot the robber to death. Mr. Riccitelle believed the man had a gun. Carson had a criminal record going back to 1987. It included battery and burglary.

Riccitelli has not been charged in the shooting. Ricitelli did not have a handgun carry permit, but Florida drivers are permitted to carry handguns in their cars and use them if they see a violent felony in progress.

In Texas:
An employee of a Dallas, Texas sandwich shop stopped two armed robbers in their tracks when they tried to rob the business. After entering the Oak Cliff business, and demanding money, the employee shot them both.

One of the robbers ran away, but was caught later. The other suspect was unable to leave the restaurant, and was arrested there. Bullet holes from the shootings were found in a next door pizza parlor, but no one was hurt there.

Also in Texas:

A Corpus Christi resident applied the Castle Doctrine, when the 24 year old man and his family were awakened by two men who broke into his house. The thugs had their faces covered and were armed with guns when they broke down the front door.

The male resident took steps to protect his wife and one year old daughter. He exchanged gunfire with the 26 year old intruder, Rudy Recio. Recio’s shots missed his targets. However, Recio was on the losing end of the gunfight. He died at a local hospital. His accomplice ran away. Recio was previously convicted of assault on a family member and possession of marijuana.

The police are calling the shooting a justifiable homicide. The people occupying the home immediately moved out to a safer location after being questioned by police.

.

In Albuquerque, New Mexico:

44 year old Jorge Romero picked the wrong house to break into. He and the homeowner exchanged shots, but it was Romero who was shot in the neck. The homeowner was uninjured. Mr. Romero will be charged after he is discharged from the hospital.

Robber Killed With his Own "Assault" Rifle

Since they had nothing else to do, 18 year old Jeremy Bell and his cousin decided that an armed robbery would be a good idea. Mr. Bell hid behind  his cousin, and was armed with an “assault rifle” at the door at the scene of the planned robbery in Shreveport, La. .

His cousin, Jerome Hughes' job was to knock on the door of the residence. A struggle between the home's occupant and Bell began when Bell began hitting the man with his firearm.

As frequently happens, the thug lost his gun to his "victim," Mr. Gobert, who shot  and killed the hapless Mr. Bell with his own firearm. Gobert, the homeowner, had to be treated for blunt force trauma at a local hospital. Charges have not been filed against Gobert.
Police are looking for Hughes will charge him wih home invasion. He will face a quarter million dollar bond.

And, in New Bloomfield, Pa:

One burglar robbed his last victim when he set off a burglar alarm at Shermans dale Beer and Beverage in New Bloomfield, Pennsylvania. 25 year old Jeffrey Thomas Harness was shot dead by an employee who went to the store only to find a broken front door glass and Mr. Harless inside. The employee confronted Harless inside, and the employee shot Harless one time in the upper chest with his handgun.  The burglar was also armed.

Meanwhile, in Houston:

A former police officer and his wife were awakened by glass breaking in their home.  The wife told her husband that someone was breaking into the home.  They saw a man with a hoodie holding a fire extinguisher in the hallway, and they feared attack.

Illinois Man Goes To Wrong House To Get 11 Year Old Son...Attacks Occupants, And Is Shot In Self Defense

In one of the strangest self defense stories in a long while, an Illinois man went to a home to pick his child up from a party. Unfortunately for all, the man picked the wrong house a block away from the party's actual location. He was told by the homeowner that the 11 year old was not there.

The father did not believe the man, so he and his 15 year old son pushed their way inside. The man began assaulting the homeowner's wife. In response, the homeowner fired multiple shots from a small caliber gun at the culprit. The shots struck both the man and his 15 year old son.

The husband and wife were treated for injuries at a local hospital. The man and the 15 year old whom police suspect broke into the home have not been charged as of yet. The home invader father had life threatening injuries.

Charges will probably not be filed against the homeowner because he was a "registered" Illinois gun owner

Meanwhile, in Grand Rapids, MI:

An armed robber in Grand Rapids, MI could run, but he couldn't hide after trying to rob a convenience store. The thug came into the business and pulled his gun, demanding cash.

After being robbed in March, 2009, he store owner had promised himself that he would never let that happen again. The store owner himself was shot in the leg in that robbery, but managed to chase that robber. Although he couldn't catch him, police arrested the robber later. The earlier robber, Amaud Jamal Rice, is serving 11 to 40 years in prison for that earlier crime.

As the thief ran from the store with $500.00, the store owner got his own Smith and Wesson .40 caliber handgun and shot the crook in the right leg.

As so often happens, the robber dropped his gun. But, he dropped more than that. Investigating officers found the gun, his knit mask, and the store's $500.00 in the store's parking lot. He and his car were located later. 20 year old Javier Francisco Flores is in a local hospital. He was taken into custody after the hospital called police about someone being admitted with a gunshot wound.

An armed robber in Ohio got more than he wanted when he robbed a car dealership there. He entered the business and asked to use the restroom. Instead, he decided to use his gun. He demanded money, and an employee complied.

The robber wasn't satisfied with the take. He began to pistol whip the person who complied with his demands. Another employee saw what was happening and got a gun. He killed the robber.

The beaten employee got a broken nose. The robber got a ride in the coroner's van.

Meanwhile, in Idaho:

A Coeur D'Alene coffee shop owner foiled a robbery with a new 9mm just given to her by her husband. The 17 year old robber told her that he was robbing her because he needed the money. So did she. The owner wouldn't comply.

The thug was distracted by a customer who pulled up to the business. The kid put his gun on the counter and covered it with his hand. This gave the proprietor time to draw her own gun. She got the drop on him and ordered him to get out of the store.

He was lucky enough to walk away and was captured by police several blocks away.

A fight began, and Smiley shot Crawford when he grabbed the gun that Crawford was holding. The bullet went through his hand and hit his leg. Police say that the shooting was in self defense.

Meanwhile, a Tennessee man breaking into a car was shot after he was caught and became aggressive to the "victim."
The owner found Kenneth Wayne Jones in the act of breaking into the car, and tried to hold him at gunpoint. At that time, Jones became aggressive toward the owner, and the owner fired in self defense. He was hit several times. No charges will be filed against the owner.

And, elsewhere in Tennessee, a Roane homeowner shot snd killed a burglar. An accomplice was charged with vandalism and attempted aggravated burglary, and is still being held on bond.

The duo had planned to burglarize the home earlier in the day, but came back later, and tried to get the home's door open. The second man waited outside as he heard a gunshot.
Evidence showed the homeowner's story checked out.

Investigation continues, and the belief is that charges will not be filed against the man defending his home.
